To exercise

This section present some exercies that can be used by teachers to works with students on climate change and sustainability issues. Some ideas to be hands-on!

 


  1. Temperatures' analysis   Use the filee of historic temperatures to owrk with students  making elaborations or graphs. Search local data fro your city, make elaborations and publish results on RACES web site on the web page  Osservazioni.  
  2. CLIMATe and HISTORY Take a look at the scheme of climate evolutions through ages to reflect on how climate influenced history and men's evolutions. Use the  file. Read the article on  “Climate and history” (in italian) on meteogiornale http://www.meteogiornale.it/news/read.php?id=9312
  3. MIND MAPS: the map of climate change. Write at the centre of the board the expression "Climate change" and annotes what arise from students discussion.  Divide studnets in small groups to discuss some issues like "Am I convinced about the evidence of climate change? Which are the basis of this convinction?" (direct experience, scientific articles, media coverage) and finally groups report to thw whole classroom. We suggest you to make this exercise before making lessons on the issues as not influence students views and opinions. 
  4. EXPERIMENTI:  Do you want to make an experiment on greenhouse effetc? See videos on the web site of the project   Meteoschool. 

 


  1. IMPACTS in cities:  Which are impacts of climate change in your city? Propose students to register impacts with pictures, videos, collecting data, and ask people (other students, teachers, to your family and friends) and local experts? Gather all materials found by students make a short video or other communication material and shar it on the RACEs community and on GoogleEarth on the pages Osservazioni.   
  2. THE MIGRATION of IBANE:  “THE migration of ibane”, interactive comics investigating climate issues conducting students towards arctic regions to discover local problems. Read the teachers'guide and game proposal. Download materials on http://www.educapoles.org/

  3. WORKING with DATA: use data collected in this file on CO2 global emissions  to make some analysis with students.  Is carbon dioxide really increasing? How much? Invite students to mkae some graphs of CO2 concentration and publish this material on the community.
  4. CARBON FOOTPRINT: to understand how much our behaviours contribute to carbon emissions calculate with students the carbon footprint fo yours and others classroom and makje some confrontation. Share data on Osservazioni.
